    An experience to see and...

An experience to see and walk around Monterey and Carmel. Was bit disappointed with the weather which was foggy most of the time in the beginning of the trip and missing the experience of driving on Highway 1 which was the most we expected. Even if it was foggy we thought we still take Highway 1 but we drove on another way or express way with no views at all except cars and buses. There was nothing to see extra special at the Peeble Beach Golf Club. Maybe others just used the short stop to go to the restrooms. However I enjoyed much the view on the way to Carmel, looking at the Pacific and the houses and park with the pink carpet flowers. I can recommend bringing extra warm jackets or sweater. It can be really cold out there esp with the stop at the lighthouse.

Many Beautiful sceneries on the way to Monterey; beautiful waves! nice water color! Monterey is a nice and clean town! Little long drive back but it is good that you can nap before heading back to the hotel. Cannot beat the price! The tour company is very organized! Excellent staffs and driver! Many memorable stops! Driver/tour guide was amazing. Its a long day so be prepared. Sadly foggy on the way there so much of the coastline was missed but what we did see was lovely . Monterey was disappointing rather like Fisherman’s Warf in San Francisco, there really isn’t enough time there to see the aquarium.Carmel was pretty and good for people watching. If youre short on money or time i would go for other tours that Viator do as they are a good company

    The Worst Tour
    Maggie_G
    , May 2022
SAVE YOUR MONEY AND RENT A CAR!!! First of all, the whole point of this tour is the scenic drive, which you only get going one way on a huge charter bus with 30+ people. Also, trying to take pics out of a charter bus window is sad and frustrating with the glare. If you think this is going to be a warm and sunny beach day, you would be dead wrong. You stop at a cool lighthouse with a terrifying bathroom and it is freezing. It is so cold with the bay winds you need to bring a coat and pants and a hat. The stop in Monterey is 2 hours and, in my opinion, way too long. I think its supposed to give you enough time for the aquarium but you don't even have enough time to do that bc the line for it is always wrapped around the building. So you spend 2 hours in a cold small "sea otter" town where the beach is shorter than a football field. I also saw zero sea otters and I sat on the beach for over an hour. Also, it was foggy the entire drive except for certain parts (where I took the pics) so the view was literally grey fog for most of the drive which is a whole waste of money when the whole point of the tour is the pretty drive. You also stop in Carmel which is a super weird hobbit town - but they have some nice touristy shops and wine tasting. Overall, save your money. Rent a car on your own. And stop in prettier towns other than Monterey and Carmel, they are boring.

Dear Maggie_G Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I’m sorry to hear that your experience hasn’t met your expectations on this occasion. Unfortunately, we don't have control over the weather, and having an outdoor experience is always subject to this kind of uncertainty. San Francisco and the Pacific coast are known for being windy and foggy. This always depends on the day, but it is very likely to be windy. On the other hand, our Monterey, Carmel & 17 miles drive is one of our best-rated tours, and we usually receive great feedback about it. I think there was a communication problem. We offer a tour with a luxury air-conditioned coach with a restroom that travels scenic California’s Pacific Coast Highway 1 to the beautiful Monterey Peninsula, famous for its spectacular ocean views, abundant wildlife, and historical past. Make stops at Cannery Row, made famous by John Steinbeck, and visit great shops and restaurants overlooking the Pacific, not to mention the world-famous Monterey Aquarium. Next, travel through the famous 17-Mile Drive and see Pebble Beach Golf Course. Photo stops will be made along this gorgeous drive. Our tour continues to Carmel by the sea, where ample time is given to walk through this charming town dotted with lovely shops and beautiful architecture. Regarding your review, you weren't expecting a bus with 30 people and would rather visit other small towns instead of Monterey and Carmel. A clarification: we stay 2 hours in Monterey so our passengers can visit their famous Aquarium (you have to buy the ticket in advance to enter without queuing) or have enough time for lunch and walk around. Thanks. Ignacio Gray Line San Francisco

    The tour was great but...
    Stephanie_S
    , May 2022
The tour was great but there were a lot of extra stops that weren't so needed so made the day/trip feel really long and needed more time in Carmel by the Sea. I would recommend to offer an abridged version of the trip where you go down highway 1, stop at Davenport I think the name was, and then straight to Carmel by the Sea and give 2 hours there. Then work your way up and stop at Monterey and then head back.
icon Response from Host , May 2022
Hello Stephanie_S, thanks for your feedback and recommendations. Unfortunately, the itinerary you proposed is missing one of the tour's key highlights, the 17-mile drive, and it is more convenient to do it in the order we are operating it. Bear in mind that we plan the first stop in Monterey when customers can have lunch, so the lunch options that customers can choose from are much more diverse (and affordable) than the ones you could get in Carmel by the Sea. We would love to please everyone, but we feel that the order and itinerary we have been running this tour for years is the best balance to visit all these beautiful locations in only one day. However, we agree that 1 hour in Carmel might not be enough, so we are revisiting some of the times we stop at each location, so we can extend our time in this beautiful location. We hope you join any of our tours again soon! Xavier General Manager Gray Line San Francisco

Wonderful tour. You have to understand what you're signing up for. This is a long day and I wouldn't recommend for someone with small children. It was great for us though. Easy way to see the area. We could have rented a car and drove ourselves but then we wouldn't have gotten the history, fun facts, and guidance of the areas we were visiting. Our guide was Antonio and we really enjoyed him!

Hello Kimberly_C Thank you for sharing your experience! I am truly glad to learn you enjoyed your experience on board our Monterey, Carmel & 17 Mile-Drive. The worst part of this trip was the driver. He had no enthusiasm. He was boring. Someone like him should not be a guide. In Caramel, he parked way too far away from the beach was. He could have dropped us near the beach and pick us later o at a specified time.
icon Response from Host , May 2022
Hello Janira, thanks for your honest feedback. We will follow up with our guide as we usually receive great reviews of his tours. We all have some bad days once in a while so we apologize if the experience was not up to your expectations. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to get close to the Beach with our buses, so the guide followed local rules.. I just read the other reviews about the other 2 tours you take with us and I'm happy to read that we did great in 2 of the 3 tours you booked with us. We look forward to welcoming back soon Xavier General Manager Gray Line San Francisco

Coastline was beautiful, did not care for all the time spent at pebble Beach golf corse or Carmel. Would have like to seen pebble Beach but the walk was to hard for me to make it back before bus leaves. Tour guide was very nice though.
icon Response from Host , May 2022
Hello Roger, thanks for your review. We're glad you like our guide and enjoyed the coastline views. Our tour covers many landmarks that are far away from San Francisco, which makes it a full day tour with many stops to cover the different highlights:: Monterey, the 17mile drive, and Carmel by the Sea. We believe that the time offered at each location is set to have a reasonable time to discover each place, and at the same time have enough time to explore all these areas in only one day. We hope to see you soon on any of the other tours we run from San Francisco. Xavier General Manager Gray Line San Francisco

This trip was amazing - especially having landed in SF in the early hours and off on this trip with a few hours of sleep. My family was exhausted and complaining of why do such a long trip on our first day of vacation to SF while home is on the east coast. Within the first hour - everyone was awake, exhilarated, and enjoying San Francisco for the first time. The first stop for coffee and snacks was exactly the right decision to get everyone charged up. Moving onto Monterey and being able to get on/off the bus, walk along the coast, seeing the pacific ocean, experiencing the waves, and moving along the coast was beyond imagination. Lunch, wine tasting, and candy were a hit although the boys wanted to go to the aquarium but the lines were long. 17-Mile Drive, Lone Cyprus at Pebble Beach, stunning homes and are just as exciting. Although we were tired by the time we got to Carmel, it didn't stop anyone from venturing the shops with the boys finding something unique to bring home - that says it all for the tour - from a family of 5 spanning 3 generations to travel across the country and within 5 hours of checking in and go on an all day tour and not fall asleep at all and still find a unique trinket to purchase in Carmel - our tour was amazing.
